The Rooftop Garden Project is fueled by the energy and enthusiasm of our community members. We help bring your imagination to life, and make your visions of climbing beans on balconies, lettuces on the patio, or tomatoes growing on rooftops a reality. We invite you to get involved in greening our community and growing food in Montreal.

Our regular gardening sessions are open to everyone, expert or novice. Sessions are led by our friendly garden coordinators. Come garden with us during the following times:

80 Ruelles de l’Avenir - Volunteers Needed
Under the direction of the horticultural specialist, you will help to maintain the gardens (watering, weeding, insect and disease control) in an ecological fashion. The participants should be interested and somewhat knowledgeable in the environment and/or gardening. And volunteers will need to be capable of physical work, outdoors under diverse weather conditions.

Mackay Garden Project
Weekly work sessions:
Monday 10am-12:00pm and Wednesday 10am-12:00pm

Gardens are on Mackay beside the Hall Building
The Mackay Garden project plants and maintains gardens right in the heart of the city; reclaiming the streets by covering the gray with green! Traditional flower planters are transformed into thriving, edible gardens.
Get involved and grow some food on Mackay right beside the Hall building! Come help us water, weed, plant & harvest green goodies! Learn new techniques & participate in Workshops going on throughout the summer.
Volunteer activities: Planting, transplanting, watering, soil mixing, basic upkeep, pest management, fertilizing

Loyola City Farm
The Loyola City Farm has now been planted, but there will still be much to do in the upcoming weeks and months. ..... weekly work sessions will be held starting this Saturday June, 18. Come and help care for the garden and learn about growing food and herbs in the city. Workshops, BBQ's and special events will also be held during these work sessions.... stay tuned!

Vermicompost Project
Date: Wednesdays
Time: 4-7pm
Location: Concordia University 1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd. W.
Hall Building 13th floor- Concordia Greenhouse
This is the practice of composting organic waste with the help of worms and microorganisms. The aim is to educate the Concordia/Montreal community about the practice and benefits of vermicomposting and to provide ready-to-use worm bins at cost and to organize community worm swaps. Also, a new component of the project will be to enhance the space visually.
Volunteer activities: Feeding the worms, checking moisture level, aerating the soil, general maintenance, promotional activities, and occasional projects.

Atrium Tea Garden Project
Weekly Work Sessions: Mondays 1:30-3:30pm; Wednesdays 1:30-3:30pm

Hall Building 13th floor - Concordia Greenhouse Atrium
A community green space for study and relaxation and an educational space for workshops and skill sharing, the production goal of the Atrium Tea Garden is to grow, harvest, and store teas to be brewed, steeped, and drank in the Greenhouse Atrium. The project will provide healthy and delicious medicinal teas to students while also educating tea drinkers on the identification and various uses of medicinal plants.
Volunteer activities: General maintenance (watering, pruning, pest control, etc.), harvesting & drying tea leaves, occasional projects (building a dryer, completing a reference book, making posters, etc.)

Four Seasons Growing
Weekly work sessions: Monday 1-4 pm and Thursday 1-3 pm
Location: Concordia University 1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd. W.
Hall Building 13th floor - Concordia Greenhouse Atrium
This project aims to maximize production while overcoming the challenges of limited space and limited sunlight in the winter. The goal is to provide organic, local food at affordable prices for students and to be an educational resource and demonstration site for innovative urban agricultural techniques. This fall, we will harvest and save seeds from our heirloom tomatoes and start a winter harvesting project using vertical space-saving techniques to grow sprouts, salad greens and herbs on a succession schedule for a continual harvest to sell at the Frigo Vert.
